July 2026

Summer flowers are starting to pop! Yes, the zinnias, cosmos and dahlias are almost ready to show us their colours. Hydrangeas are blooming and I will start cutting them soon, some for bouquets and some for drying. I have been cutting black-eyed Susans and other wildflowers as well as some of the more formal old fashioned flowers for personal bouquets for inside. Unfortunately, the weather has been so hot that unless they are out of the heat and sun the cut flowers are struggling if I leave them outside.

Just doing a random pick in the garden last week. My first snapdragons, balloon flower, my first yellow rose. I like to use mint in my bouquets but I also dry the extra leaves for the winter.

Out behind the barn, the Canada Day series of storms have taken down at least 6 trees and maybe more so there is going to have to be a lot of hard work to clear all the storm debris.

The creek tree this spring- you can see where it had been girdled in the past and this is where it cracked. It has not fully fallen over.

The farm will be open most days once the zinnias and other flowers are ready for harvest. As always if you want a bouquet send me an email and I can cut one the morning before you arrive.

A Zinnia still at the wiggly stage. I will pick it this week.

The tomatoes are flowering and so are the cucumbers and beans. The grandchildren ate all the peas straight off the vine but I will be replanting for a fall harvest this week.

Have a wonderful summer!
