Well the Martinette, Thalia, Geranium daffodils will be up for Mother’s Day! They smell lovely!
I will start picking Friday so that they can be properly conditioned for this weekend.
What does that mean?
All parts of the daffodil are toxic. It is why animals won’t eat them. If you cut a daffodil, the sap they ooze is toxic (it’s why daffodils are never a u-pick product- I wear gloves to pick and break them off by hand- it prevents daffodil itch). If you mix them in with other flowers right away, this toxic sap will kill your roses and tulips. To make sure your daffodils are ready I condition them prior to selling them. This means I put them in the fridge and let the wound seal over in cold water for up to 24 hours.
So when you bring your daffodils home, don’t recut them! They will just start oozing sap again.
