Spring 2026

Welcome to Daffadilly Farm!

I have been out foraging for violets to make violet jelly and I would like to attempt to make candied violets this spring. I was picking when I noticed this fine example of a Gray Ratsnake. Needless to say I went to another patch to pick. This big boy helps control rodents like mice and voles. Given the amount of winter damage from voles he needs to get busy!

Gray Ratsnakes in the Frontenac Axis area are threatened. So even while I don’t want a cuddle and kiss from him, I respect his right to slither across my property.

As you drive into Jasper and cross the bridge, slow down. They love to sun there and unfortunately are often hit by cars. https://www.ontario.ca/page/gray-ratsnake
